Job Description:
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) plays a vital role in supporting rehabilitation services for patients in a rural healthcare setting. Working under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA helps implement treatment plans to improve patient mobility, strength, and functional independence. This position involves direct patient care, assisting with therapeutic exercises, wound care, mobility training, and education on rehabilitation techniques.

Schedule: Monday—Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm; no weekends required

Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist, carry out appropriate treatment plans for patients with a variety of conditions.
  • Consult with the Physical Therapist when in doubt about any part of the treatment program.
  • Carry out all technical-modality related therapies appropriately and within given policies and procedures by the Physical Therapist.
  • Maintain and care for equipment in a knowledgeable and careful manner.
  • Assist patients in transferring from various apparatus in removing and applying various orthopedic appliances and assist patients in dressing and undressing as necessary.
  • Appropriately document progress reports for patients within department policies and procedures.
  • Perform and assist in other treatment related activities predetermined for each patient by the Physical Therapist.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure as a PTA.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or completed within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience in a hospital or rural healthcare setting is a plus but not required.
  • Motor coordination and manual dexterity
  • The ability to lift and/or support over 25 pounds, could be subject to strains
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods, as well as bend, stoop, and reach as part of the job duties.
