Overview

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of a highschool diploma or equivalency.
  • Possess a working knowledge of carpentry, electricity and machines
  • Have knowledge of custodial methods for cleaning of school buildings.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of people.
  • Have a knowledge of safety techniques and regulations.
  • Be able to use available technology related to the position.
  • Have the physical abilities to complete manual work and to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Have a valid CDL with required endorsements, or willingness to obtain one.

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the maintenance and operation of all school buildings to attain a condition best suitable for the health and safety of students and faculty.
  • Develop, with the superintendent and principals, a maintenance schedule of work which needs to be completed during the summer months and during the school year.
  • Work with the superintendent regarding building repairs and/or remodeling to meet the needs of the fire marshal, insurance companies, health departments, Department of Human
  • Resources, food service, etc.
  • Complete or arrange repairs as necessary.
  • Complete maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Assist the principal in supervising custodial hours, assign and supervise the custodians.
  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Be responsible for recommending the purchases of all maintenance and custodial supplies and equipment to the superintendent.
  • Supervise the care and maintenance of all grounds belonging to the district.
  • Assist the superintendent and principals in the assignment of custodians.
  • Assist the superintendent and principals in hiring custodians when an opening occurs.
  • Recommend to the superintendent applicants for summer help.
  • Maintain the asbestos abatement records for the district and arrange for required inspections.
  • Coordinate and recommend to the superintendent annual service contracts that are needed.
  • Arrange for training for custodians as needed.
  • Coordinate snow removal efforts.
  • Maintain current and accurate Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Maintain a district Fire Safety Handbook and supervise the buildings’ handbooks. Supervise required training.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor the use of utilities at each facility and set thermostats at appropriate levels.
  • Comply with all board policies and regulations in the Classified Staff Handbook.

Terms of Employment and Benefits: Annual salary paid monthly, Contract can be terminated at will with 2 weeks notice: as established by the employment contract.

Salary Range: $40,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience.
